2020 WAIS Workshop
Thank you for attending the Virtual West Antarctic Ice Sheet Workshop 2020!
Due to on-going COVID19 pandemic, the 2020 WAIS Workshop was a distributed, virtual conference. And instead of having three days of WAIS Workshop activities, we had three weeks of WAIS Workshop content to enjoy. You can see the 2020 Agenda, with direct links to each talk here or view recordings of all the 2020 talks on YouTube here.
Weeks of September 21 and September 28: Virtual Science Sessions
October 6: WAIS Community discussion about race and racism in West Antarctic research
October 7: WAIS Community discussion about early-career impacts of CoViD-19
Topics for virtual sessions included:
- Snow/firn/surface-mass balance
- Grounding zones and ice shelves
- Past records of changes and processes
- Oceanography and marine biology
- Science communication and outreach
- Subglacial environments, processes, and lifeforms
- Leading edge (new tech, methods, and data science)
Abstracts were reviewed by WAIS Workshop organizers and session conveners. Decisions and session placement were announced by September 7 and session schedules finalized by September 14. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are embraced at the WAIS Workshop, and we are committed to creating and maintaining a workshop environment that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming to all genders, races, identities, self-expressions, ethnicities and cultures.
